Savor Nevada County Cuisine

To dine can be defined as “to eat the principal meal of the day” or “to take any meal.” So while we are talking about restaurants, it is perfectly acceptable for you to picture yourself having breakfast, lunch or dinner. For that matter, let’s throw in a light supper, bar snacks or hors d’oeuvres, as Merriam Webster is unlikely to read this. The good news is, you can imagine yourself enjoying almost any combination of food and atmosphere and then make it happen in Nevada County.

Food from all of the most sought-after ethnic cuisines is well-represented here. Along with great Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Italian, we also offer the often underrepresented Swiss, German, Cornish, Creole and, uh, Kabobian. With three days and half of a tank of gas you can treat your palate to a trip around the world. And of course we feature “California Cuisine,” which is a bit hard to pin down, ethnically, but tends to be fusion featuring foods that are fresh, wholesome, in-season, healthful and bursting with flavor. Organic and locally-to-regionally sourced foods are at the top of many of our Chef’s lists. It is amazing to consider all of the things that can be grown and raised in California- and we get to celebrate it!

If you are someone with sophisticated tastes, we have some of the finest “fine dining” establishments anywhere and they are dedicated to delighting your senses. “Romantic” is one of the first words to come to mind when picturing a dining experience of this level, coupled with a stroll afterward around one of our gorgeous old historic downtowns. If you have no one to take to dinner just now, give me a call as I am totally sold on the idea.

Casual dining and grabbing something quick on your way to the river are also done exquisitely around here. We have terrific delis, grills and cafes, saloons and juice bars. We even have places called “chuck wagons” and “lil’ frosties.” I almost forgot the bakeries, which are with-coffee legendary, including bagels for which no “New York exception” need be invoked. Now that I think about it, there is even some really good food at our County Fair.
